The opporunities to be on the beautiful waters of St Augustine are endless!  Driving around on a georgeous sunny day and seeing the beautiful boats will capture your attention and make you a salt water lover instantly.  Moving here in January of 2010 I would notice this particular sailboat that is stunning sailing across the ocean waters by our house daily and I wanted to be on that boat!! After doing some research I found out that it was the Schooner Freedom and you could be a passenger for a small fee.

My son and I have a passion for sailboats so I was thinking what a memorable experience a ride on the Freedom Schooner would be for his birthday.  This past weekend we had the pleasure of being passengers on this beautiful vessel with my entire family for his birthday weekend.  Freedom is an authentic replica of a 19th century blockade runner.  She is a 72′ double masted topsail schooner that will capture your attention from miles away.  The Freedom was the first sailing tour boat to be certified under the Coast Guard here in St Augustine to carry passengers for hire.  They offer daysails, evening sails, and ghost tour sails in the evening.

We did the evening sail and it was everything I had hoped it to be! Captain John is very friendly and has been sailing for many years and makes you feel at ease with his staff and will answer any questions you may have about sailing the waters of St Augustine.  They play music while serving drinks as you enjoy 2 hours of the beautiful scenery.  Its such a great unique way to see St Augustine and all its beauty!  The houses on the water are phenomenal and the historic arcticheture you can see from the boat are breathtaking.

In the 1880′s the sleepy Spanish town welcomed Henry Flagler, who developed St Augustine into a major resort for the leisure traveler.  This is when the residents quickly turned to the leisure life and became engrossed in the activites that were offered such a golfing, yacht racing in the winter, and enjoying the resorts and the golf courses developed around town.  There is no other place like St Augustine, “the oldest city,” so please come visit and you will never want to leave!
